Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday, mainly because 1) I love salty food, and 2) I don’t actually like holidays. But, I do dig the part about giving thanks. That’s perhaps the healthiest part of this super-sized holiday.
In that spirit, I’ve asked some of the folks here at Get Satisfaction to list at least one thing they’re thankful for this year:
Amy: I’m thankful for Twitter. With my insanely busy life, I can still feel connected to my friends through the simple, random thoughts and actions they tweet about. And, it has given me a place to keep track of my baby’s milestones and the funny things my six-year-old says — since I have no time to keep up a baby book.
Bernd: Hey there. I’m Bernd. The Kraut, the new guy, etc. I must confess, I have more to be thankful for this Thanksgiving than ever before. My wife and I had a beautiful baby girl 15 days ago. We’ll be celebrating our first anniversary around Christmas. I’m living in the Bay area (which is definitely not New Jersey) and I’m working at Get Satisfaction. Everything has happened so quickly that I’ve really not had time to itemize, so please pardon me if I do so here. I met a beautiful woman whose eccentricities complement my own. We just had a baby whose vibrant poop, upon the canvas of a diaper, could and should show at the Louvre, in my opinion. And I’m working in San Francisco on a Rails application that helps people get value for their expenditures rather than proliferating chump-biting zombies. Moreover, my colleagues are cool enough to have sent a week’s worth of gourmet meals, one of which I just finished eating, as a baby-gift.
Lane: I’m just thankful for the people I get to work with every day!
Ted: I’m thankful for all the people devoted to helping and supporting disadvantaged children in western Thailand (Baan dada) and around the world.
Scott H: I am thankful to work with incredibly smart people on a product that inspires me and every day proves me wrong. Web 2.0 companies can have viable business models (aside from biting zombies, as Bernd mentioned). I am also thankful for modern communication technology and the Internet. Even though it can sometimes be really annoying and dehumanizing, it really does bring us all closer together. BTW, I’m writing from outside of Amman, right now, and the Jordanian Internet appears to consist of two abacuses strung together with a piece of waxed camel gut.
Wendy: I’m thankful for a sassy four-year-old who insists on playing make believe every day; a beautiful baby who loves to laugh; a fantastic husband who makes everything more sparkly; living in one of the most beautiful places on Earth; and working with people who realize the brilliance of True Blood.
And me? I’m thankful that, one year ago, the fine folks at Get Satisfaction helped me break away from a life of tawdry journalism and provided me with a new outlook on business and life that perhaps everyone should try out once in a while: brokering peace and stoking participation in online communities.
Bon appetit, mes amis!
